Design Methodology

Discover

The discovery process involves learning all we can about your project before we start. We take the time to analyze your company, industry, and audience.

Define

Now it's time to help you determine your overall goals and objectives. At this point we use time-proven tools to help define what your goals are for the design or redesign of your site and how to determine the strategy and approach for success. Having a clear definition of the overall scope and timing of the project before we start is crucial to success. Focus should be on the user and the user's needs which is the key to creating a site which is usable and clearly focused.

Structure

Taking a look at the content and organization of a site is the first step to creating an effective user experience. Also referred to as information architecture or information design, structuring is about connecting the user to the content and organizing information in an intuitive manner. It is also about blueprinting the site from a functional and organizational perspective. Ultimately, understanding what the user is looking for and allowing easy access to content and information is the goal. It's all about ensuring that users find the information they need.

Design & Prototype

The visual design phase is known as "the fun part." As designers, we are finally able to stretch our creative wings to brainstorm, conceptualize and produce a look and feel based on the completed upfront work. During this phase, navigation and functionality defined in the structuring phase are addressed by building an HTML prototype to test and validate the information design. By running design and prototype concurrently, we are able to go back and forth between design and functionality and ensure seamless integration of the two.

Build & Test

We've spent much of our time so far defining and preparing the site for actual production. We have structured the project, developed the look and feel — now it is time to compile and create the website.

This is the point at which the pieces you have contemplated, planned and gathered come together. This step is divided into three parts: Pre-Production (setting up), Building (HTML production) and Testing (the QA, or Quality Assurance, process.)

A comprehensive plan for both HTML production and QA is crucial to success. Throughout the building process, it is important to incorporate QA methodology, whether informally or formally.

Launch

The "Go Live Moment" is all about launching your site, and what needs to done before, during and after the site goes live. It is also about picking up the loose ends before moving into the next phase. We have completed the QA process — instead of reacting and fixing haphazardly, we create a list and schedule to prioritize the post-launch fixes. This stage is also about handing off the site — making sure that there is a proper ‘documentation’ for handoff so you can manage your new website.

Evaluate and Maintain

At the beginning of the project, specific goals and objectives for the website were outlined. Now that the project is completed and the site is live, it is time to take a step back and review the project as a whole. How do you intend to get user feedback? Will you be depending on customer complaints or feedback directly from the site? Will you be conducting any usability tests? Will you be analyzing logs? Determining how successful a site is depends on getting both quantitative and qualitative feedback and data. Evaluation depends on a variety of perspectives and forms of feedback to be effective.
